Removing Chewing Gum From Carpet

Chewing gum is one of the most tricky things to get out of carpet. It can be difficult to remove using conventional carpet cleaning methods, so you will have to try a different approach if you want to remove it. Here is a helpful tip and trick from Avocado Services.

Freezing the Gum

Step 1) You will need some ice, a plastic bag and a spoon or blunt knife to use to scrape with.

Step 2) Fill your bag with some ice and rub it over the gum. You are trying to make it hard and less sticky.

Step 3) Once the gum is freezing cold you should be able to scrape most of it away with your spoon or knife. You will want to work quickly to get it removed before it becomes sticky again.

When using the spoon or knife it is very important not to apply to much pressure or scape to hard as you may damage the fibre of the carpet, so take great care when using this method.

Hot Water Extraction Carpet Cleaning

This is the most effective method of cleaning carpets and almost every manufacturer recommends it. Hot water extraction is also known as steam cleaning. The process involves the spraying of hot water at a very high pressure along with a mixture of carpet cleaning detergents. The high pressure forces the mixture deep into the carpet fibres and extracts the dirt out, leaving the area clean and fresh.

Avocado Services only uses leading brands which have been tried and tested over 25 years.

Removing Pet Hair From Carpet

If you have a pet that has got hair all over the carpet and vacuuming has not worked then a simple trick it to get a soft brush and a spray bottle filled with water.

Give the area a light vacuum first to remove any surface debris, then spray the area with a fine coat of water this will help bind the hair together for the next step. Once the area is slightly wet, brush the area in one direction towards you moving all the hair to one place, this should form a clump of loose hair ready for you to pick up and discard.
